This paper investigates the extent to which Junior High School students are exposed to information on the dangers of the habit of smoking through the approved health education programs in school and through the Junior High School books. A survey of the health education programs in the Junior High Schools of the First Department of Secondary Education of Athens showed a rise in the number of programs concerned with the issue of smoking. Investigation of the school books, however, indicated that there is no substantial consideration of the consequences of smoking and that the teaching time attributed to this issue is very limited.

Key words: Health education, Junior High School, School books, Smoking.
