The level of satisfaction of healthcare users with their contact with the healthcare services, and the degree of fulfilment of their expectations contribute to the evaluation of the adequacy and quality of the services provided. The purpose of this review was to present the documentation of positive or negative assessment by healthcare users of the health services provided. The goal was to clarify the factors related to their level of satisfaction, in order to schedule changes and improvements in the healthcare services and in the attitudes and practices of healthcare personnel. The satisfaction has been related, mainly, to rapidity of response, to the facilities and access to them, to the implementation of new technologies in care, and to communication with the healthcare and administrative personnel. These are the parameters that determine the quality of the services provided, and their monitoring is considered necessary to the improvement of services in the present healthcare conditions.

Key words: Expectations of patients, Healthcare services, Patient satisfaction.
