COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF STANDARDIZED
AND STEP-BACK TECHNIQUE IN SHAPING OF ROOÔ CANAL
FOLLOWED BY LATERAL CONDENSATION OBTURATION TECHNIQUE
P. BELTES
SUMMARY The purpose of this study is to compare two instrumentation techniques: the standardized and the step-back technique. The material used in this study consisted of sixty four recently extracted single-rooted teeth, that were randomly separated into two equal groups (A and B) of thirty teeth each. The remaining teeth were used as controls. The teeth in group A were instrumented with the standardized technique and the teeth in group B with the step-back technique. All teeth were obturated using the lateral condensation of gutta-percha cones. All teeth were immersed in india ink, centifuged at 30g for three minutes, decalcified, cleared and examined under a stereoscopic microscope to measure the apical dye penetration. The results showed higher mean value of dye penetration in group Á than in group Â, without statistical significant difference between the two groups (Student's t-test, p>0.05).
KEY WORDS: Microleakage, Standardized technique, Step-back technique, Lateral condensation.
