COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN ORAL DIAGNOSIS

SUMMARY The application of computers is permeating a wide spectrum of human activities with the forecast that this revolution will continue throughout this century. As health care delivery becomes increasingly complex, computers offer an effective means of managing data and assisting in diagnosis and treatment of disease. The computer augments the judgment of the experienced clinician and assists the less experienced clinician in decision making. With the assistance of computers in diagnosis and treatment planning the practitioner is able to devote more attention to the patient's needs. This article discusses the application of computers to dental hygiene by addressing their role in clinical practice, practice management, dental education and research.
