NASOLABIAL CYST
A CASE REPORT
Å. PARARA, M. KORMA, P. GRITZALIS, E. STYLOGIANNI
SUMMARY The nasolabial cyst is a rare cyst of the soft tissues. It usually presents a swelling in the nasolabial folds, below the base of the nasal alae. Both genders are affected, but it is more common in females than in males by a ratio of 4:1. Peak incidence is observed in the fourth and fifth decades. The clinical presentation of this lesion is usually a swelling in the upper lip or the mucolabial fold in the canine fossa. Deformity of the nasal ala may also occur. Radiographically there are no important findings in a panoramic or an occlusal view, as this is a lesion of soft tissues. Imaging of this lesion is possible in a lateral radiograph specially taken for soft tissues. The purpose of this paper is the presentation of an interesting case of a nasolabial cyst which appeared in an outpatient of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the Dental School of Athens. This was surgically removed intraorally and histologically examined. The relevant literature is also reviewed.
KEY WORDS: Nasolabial cyst.
