THE USE OF PRECISION ATTACHMENTS IN ÑRÏSÔÇÏDÏÍTICS
D. GONIDIS, G. PHILIPPATOS
SUMMARY Precision attachments that are used in prosthodontics are confronted with circumspection from the genera1 practitioner. The main problems are two: a) the clinical management of precision attachments is based on special knowledge and b) there are no satisfactory references for these subjects. Precision attachments are pre-contracted precision mechanisms which connect parts of fixed partial dentures or connect removable partial dentures with abutments. These mechanisms are the connective ring between fixed and removable prosthodontics. In fixed prosthodontics they are used just like complying attachments. In removable prosthodontics they are used just like direct holders in the place of. The use of precision attachments facilitates clinica1 and laboratory manipulations and at the same time doesn't prevent the easy and safe locking and unlocking of the parts of the construction. The use of precision attachments solves many biomechanical problems, but the general practitioner must be very careful because of the overuse of these precision mechanisms.
