MASTICATORY EFFICIENCY OF FULL OR PARTIALLY EDENTULOUS PATIENTS
AFTER REHABILITATION
WITH REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS
M. TZAKIS, D. NIKOLOVIENI, P. DIMITRIOU
SUMMARY The % masticatory efficiency of 23 completely edentulous patients and 16 completely edentulous in the maxilla and partially edentulous in the mandible patients was measured. Registrations were performed: before the replacement of the old dentures (registration á), the day the new dentures were delivered (registration â), two weeks after the dentures were placed (registration ã), and two months after (registration ä). The results indicate that: 1) The masticatory efficiency of edentulous patients with old dentures that need replacement is low. 2) The masticatory efficiency is better two weeks after the placement of the dentures. 3) It is obvious that the placement of the new dentures offers the patient a gradual improvement of the masticatory efficiency. A significant improvement was recorded two months after the placement of the new dentures.
