List of Abbreviations and Acronyms Used in the Tables

% xxx/total isolates
Represents the relative rate of isolation of the respective bacterial species in the respective hospital.
Isolates tested
Represents the number of isolates of the respective species tested, for the respective antibiotic in the respective hospital laboratory.
% NS*
Present Non Susceptible
(%NS = %R+%I)
% R*
Percent Resistant
% I*
Percent Intermediate
Weighted Average
Calculates the mean % of resistance of the respective bacterial species to the respective antibiotic in our network as an average that takes into account the proportional relevance of each component, (in our case the number of Isolates tested in each Hospital) rather than treating each component (% Resistance in each hospital) equally.
Hospital Mean
Calculates the mean % of resistance of the respective bacterial species to the respective antibiotic in our network, as the mean of the % resistances of the participating hospitals, treated equally (irrespective of their no of isolates).
* The relative calculations are performed in hospitals with more than 7 isolates
