The exponential progress in the field of medically assisted reproduction (MAR), in combination with the ever-increasing supply of, and demand for, the provision of medical services in this area, observed in Greece during recent years, raises questions regarding the abuse of medical power and the implications of using new biomedical techniques, which although they have improved traditional medical and biological research practices, also pose serious human rights risks. The subject of this article is reproductive material and its related research from the legal viewpoint. The purpose is the search for legal limits, as laid down by international and domestic law, in scientific research on human reproductive material and its utilization for reproductive purposes, and examination of the protection these rules provide to the human being whose reproductive material is being investigated.
