"The phenomenon of ageism, as a form of prejudice and discrimination directly related to age, constitutes a critical challenge for contemporary healthcare systems, as it manifests through negative behaviors, unequal management practices, and the reinforcement of stereotypes against older individuals. Concurrently, demographic aging, a global phenomenon with particular intensity in developed countries, significantly impacts both society and healthcare structures, where, despite diverse terminological approaches to old age, age-related stereotypes maintain a strong influence, profoundly affecting social perception and the provision of healthcare. The attitudes of healthcare professionals towards elderly patients are shaped by a complex interplay of personal perceptions, stereotypes, cultural values, and experiences, given that ageism in healthcare is not limited to an individual level but also manifests institutionally, leading to consequences in diagnosis and treatment. Research data clearly indicate the influence of these stereotypes, ultimately creating inequalities in care, although contemporary studies record encouraging positive shifts in the attitudes of physicians and nurses towards aging. Consequently, this paper thoroughly analyzes the phenomenon's impact on the quality of care, urgently highlighting the need for the establishment and implementation of comprehensive awareness and education programs for healthcare professionals.

Key words: Attitudes, Healthcare provision, Healthcare system, Older adults, Stereotypes.
